Report: Britney Spears' Music Used to Scare Somali Pirates

The music of Britney Spears has been used by the British Navy to scare off Somali pirates, according to news reports in England.

Britney's hits, including Oops! I Did It Again and Baby One More Time, are being employed by British naval officers in an attempt to deter pirates off the east coast of Africa, The Guardian reported Oct. 29.

Merchant naval officer Rachel Owens explained to Metro News:

"Her songs were chosen by the security team because they thought the pirates would hate them most. These guys can't stand western culture or music, making Britney's hits perfect. As soon as the pirates get a blast of Britney, they move on as quickly as they can."

Britney's new single "Work Bitch" has more than 37 million views since Oct. 1, according to YouTube. It was not clear whether the British Navy will add the song to their pirate-deterrent playlist.
