Giant Free Outdoor Concert 'Tachevah' Planned for Wednesday in Palm Springs

About 10,000 people are expected Wednesday at the second annual Tachevah concert and block party in downtown Palm Springs.

Tachevah, which is held in between the two weekends of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, will be held outside the Spa Resort Casino. Admission is free, and the headliner is Los Angeles indie pop band Fitz and the Tantrums, according to city spokeswoman Amy Blaisdell.

DJ duo Classixx will also appear, and local bands the Yip Yops, CIVX and ONE11 won opening billing after playing sets at two concerts last month at the Hard Rock Hotel in Palm Springs. More than 60 bands entered for the chance to play at Tachevah -- a Cahuilla Indian phrase that means a plain view -- and judges included Grammy Award winner Shelby Lynne, according to organizers.

The event is produced by Goldenvoice -- which produces the Coachella and Stagecoach music festivals -- The Desert Sun, local hoteliers, the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, the city and philanthropist Harold Matzner.

"The city of Palm Springs ... is thrilled to welcome Goldenvoice and the Tachevah Block Party to our town during this important tourism week in the Coachella Valley," said Mayor Steve Pougnet.

The inaugural concert, headlined by Coachella performers Passion Pit, drew 6,500 people last year, according to organizers.

Fitz and the Tantrums played at Coachella in 2012. The band's hits include "The Walker" and "Out Of My League," and its most recent album, "More than Just A Dream," reached No. 26 on the Billboard charts.
