Dern to Receive Career Achievement Award at 25th Palm Springs International Film Festival

Actor Bruce Dern will be presented with a Career Achievement Award at the 25th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival, event promoters announced Tuesday.

Dern, 77, currently considered an Oscar contender for his lead role in "Nebraska," will be recognized at the festival's Awards Gala, presented by Cartier and hosted by Mary Hart, on Saturday Jan. 4 at Palm Springs Convention Center.

Also to be honored at the Gala will be actors Sandra Bullock and Matthew McConaughey, who will receive Desert Palm Achievement Awards.

The Palm Springs International Film Festival is scheduled Jan. 3 to Jan. 13, 2014.

"Bruce Dern is truly a one of a kind performer," Festival Chairman Harold Matzner said. "His skill at capturing the essence of a character, no matter how complex or unorthodox, is unique and unparalleled."

According to Palm Springs International Film Festival promoters, previous Career Achievement Award honorees include Glenn Close, Robert Duvall, Clint Eastwood, Sally Field, Morgan Freeman and Helen Mirren.

The PSIFF is billed as one of the largest film festivals in North America, welcoming attendees annually for a lineup of new and celebrated international features and documentaries.

The Awards Gala of the 25th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival is presented by Cartier and sponsored by Mercedes Benz and Entertainment Tonight. The City of Palm Springs is the Title Sponsor of the Film Festival.
