Weather Gathering in Pass in Advance of Storm Wednesday Night to Thursday

The incoming weather system has picked up some tropical moisture, according to Kevin Martin of the Southern California Weather Authority. Martin issued a flood advisory earlier Wednesday for an area including the San Gorgonio Pass.

Weather was gathering Wednesday evening in the San Gorgonio Pass in advance of a storm system expected to bring rain at lower elevations and snow in the mountains at higher elevations.

The incoming weather system has picked up some tropical moisture, according to Kevin Martin of the Southern California Weather Authority. Martin issued a flood advisory earlier Wednesday for an area including the San Gorgonio Pass.

The storm originated in the northeast Pacific but it is carrying tropical moisture as it moves inland, Stephen Harrison of the National Weather Service said.

Isolated to scattered rain showers may begin by 8:30 p.m., the Weather Service stated in a short-term forecast issued at 6:28 p.m. Wednesday. Greater rainfall amounts are expected later Wednesday night.

Overnight lows Wednesday into Thursday were expected in the high 40s to mid-50s from Beaumont to Cabazon, according to the Weather Service.

Snow levels in the mountains on both sides of the Pass could drop to about 7,000 feet by Thursday morning, according to the Weather Service.

Stormy weather is expected to move out of the Pass by Friday, with forecasats calling for clear skies and highs in the 70s to low 80s for Saturday and Sunday.
