Wednesday Morning Update:

All but one of the Palm Springs streets closed Tuesday night due to high winds and blowing have been reopened, police said.

North Indian Canyon Drive remained closed between Tramview Road and Garnet Avenue.

North Gene Autry Trail and East Vista Chino were reopened Wednesday morning.

The following is a news release issued by the Palm Springs Police Department at 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 25:

Effective immediately, the following streets are closed due to high winds causing blowing sand and limited visibility:
  • Gene Autry Trail, between Via Escuela and I-10.
  • Vista Chino, between Gene Autry Trail and Carmela Drive.
  • Indian Canyon Drive, between Tramview Road and Garnet Avenue.
These roads will be closed until further notice and all drivers and pedestrians are asked to avoid the area for their own safety.

Driving around a barricade is against the law and violators will be cited.

We will update you with any further information as it becomes available.  Please drive safely.

Caltrans got that new, costly electronic sign up as you get to Windy Point out of PS on 111, but in six months they haven't fixed one of the three rail barriers along that stretch.

One of the reasons I moved here (10 years ago), was to get away from drifting snow. Now, I've got drifting sand instead.
