UPDATED: Multi-Vehicle Pileup Near Banning on Interstate 10

Two lanes have been closed and a sigalert has been issued.

Update 5 p.m.:  Caltrans officals say that the scene of a crash involving three big rigs and five other vehicles is now clear. 

As of 4:40 p.m., there was a seven-mile long traffic backup on Interstate 10 westbound.

Update 3:10 p.m.:
 Caltrans officials tell Banning-Beaumont Patch that the big rig is currently being hooked up to a tow truck to be hauled away from the crash site.

Witnesses tell Patch that traffic is backed up on the interstate all the way to Highway 111.

Two lanes of I-10 in the Banning/Cabazon area have been shut down to traffic, after a big rig crashed in the rain.

The No. 3 and 4 lanes-- the two rightmost lanes-- of westbound Interstate 10 are closed at Main Street east of Banning at the scene of a pileup involving three big rigs and five vehicles, according to Caltrans.

No serious injuries have been reported.
