"Song of Banning" to Be Sung at Special Centennial Concert

Among the featured entertainment will be Native American songs from the San Gorgonio Pass and Banning, according to organizers.

The following was submitted for publication by the Banning Centennial Committee:

The Pass Chorale and Orchestra will present “Banning Centennial Concert: Americana” on Sunday, May 19 at 2:30 p.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 1320 W. Williams Street in Banning.   Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. 

The chorale, under the direction of Ernest Siva, will perform “Lux Aeterna” by Morten Lauridsen, as well as “Song of Banning,” Native American songs from the Pass and patriotic songs.   Also featured is Bill Bell who will perform fiddle and stagecoach music.

The Pass Chorale is a community chorus serving Banning, Beaumont and surrounding communities.  Silva, chorale artistic director, grew up in Banning and received a bachelor's degree in music education and a master's degree in choral music from the University of Southern California. He has conducted choirs and orchestras in public schools and churches and has taught classes in American Indian Music at UCLA.
