Snow levels crept below 6,000 feet elevation before sundown Thursday in Forest Falls and Mill Creek Canyon in the mountains north of Beaumont and Banning.
Pines and other trees on ridges in the San Gorgonio Wilderness were dusted white. Mist and denser banks of cloud shifted slowly up and down canyon as darkness fell.
The overnight low Thursday for Forest Falls was expected around 26, with a slight chance of snow and a high of 38 predicted for Friday, according to the National Weather Service. The snow chance for Friday night was forecast at 80 percent in Mill Creek Canyon.
Overnight lows Thursday for Beaumont and Banning were expected in the low 40s with the chance of rain showers holding around 20 percent, according to the Weather Service.
Friday in the San Gorgonio Pass is expected cloudy with a 60 percent of showers and highs around 50, with the rain chance increasing to 80 percent Friday night.
