The high temperature measured Wednesday in Whitewater was 107 at 3 p.m., a National Weather Service meteorologist said.
Visitors found a way to stay cool at the Wildland Conservancy's Whitewater Preserve in Whitewater Canyon.
"We are here every Summer," said Whitewater Preserve visitor, Amber Clodfelter of Desert Hot Springs. "We love it here, it is interesting to see how the it (the riverbed) changes each year. Its a nice place for the family to get away and stay cool."

A heat warning for daily highs above 100 has been extended into next week for an area that includes Whitewater and Cabazon, county health officials said.
