Snow levels could drop to 3,500 feet in the San Gorgonio and San Jacinto mountains that flank the Pass, according to the National Weather Service.

A cold low pressure system moving across northwest Mexico was expected to bring rain and snow showers to a region including the San Gorgonio Pass through Sunday morning.

Forecasts called for 3 to 6 inches of snow at elevations above 5,000 feet, and snow levels could drop to 3,500 feet in the San Gorgonio and San Jacinto mountains that flank the Pass, according to the National Weather Service.

A winter weather advisory was issued just before sundown Saturday for an area including Forest Falls, Angelus Oaks, Barton Flats, Big Bear Lake, Pine Cove and Idyllwild. It was in effect until 10 a.m. Sunday above 5,000 feet.

"Periods of snow will persist in the San Bernardino and Riverside mountains this evening and overnight," the Weather Service advised. "The most widespread snow will occur after midnight and through Sunday morning for all mountains."
