High Wind Watch for Mountains of the San Gorgonio Pass This Weekend

Strong, gusty southwest to west winds due are expected due to a trough of low pressure moving inland across Southern California, according to the National Weather Service.

A high wind watch has been issued for an area including the mountains of the San Gorgonio Pass for Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning.

As of Thursday afternoon, "it appears that the winds will increase during the day Saturday . . . with the strongest winds occurring late Saturday afternoon through Saturday night," the Weather Service advised.

Winds gusting to 70 miles per hour may be possible through passes and canyons including the San Gorgonio Pass.

"Strongest winds near ridge tops . . . along desert mountain slopes . . . and through the Banning Pass," the Weather Service advised. "Visibilities may fall to a quarter mile or less" due to blowing dust and sand in desert areas.
