County, Advocacy Agencies Take Elder Protection Training

On Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office hosted and co-sponsored a daylong training seminar entitled “Elder Abuse: The Need for Coordinated Community Response.”

On Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office
hosted and co-sponsored a daylong training seminar entitled “Elder Abuse: The Need for Coordinated Community Response.”

The training was organized and sponsored by The Riverside County Abuse Later in Life Partners which is composed of the DA’s Office, county Department of Public Social Services, Riverside Police Department, and Alternatives to Domestic Violence.

The goals of this training were to help provide cross-training for the various agencies that could be involved in elder abuse cases and provide access to local services and resources.

Participants were also encouraged to address ways to more effectively prevent and respond to cases of elder abuse.

About 50 people attended the training, held at the Grover Trask Training Center at the DA’s Office on Orange Street in Riverside.

Those in attendance included representatives from the DA’s Office, county Department of Public Social Services, county Board of Supervisors, county Department of Mental Health, county Office on Aging and county Department of Environmental Health.

Also attending were representatives from the Probation Department, county fire Office of Emergency Services, city of Riverside, Alternatives to Domestic Violence, Riverside Area Rape Crisis Center, Safe Alternatives for Everyone, Family Services Association and Inland Child and Family Services.
