Cabazon's Wheel Inn, Home of Famed Dinosaurs, Has Closed

The Wheel Inn truck stop and diner on the north side of Interstate 10 in Cabazon has closed, ABC7 reports.

The restaurant, which opened in 1958, became famous in part for the iconic dinosaurs built behind the business at the Main Street exit.

The late Claude Bell created the dinos to keep watch of his Wheel Inn restaurant, according to ABC7.

According to the Press-Enterprise, the manager of the restaurant says the building needed improvements and busy weekends weren't enough to pay the bills.

LA Observed has more from PE columnist Bob Pratte.
