Banning, Beaumont Youth Say 'No' to Drugs

Hundreds of youth from the Banning, Beaumont and Cherry Valley areas took part in a seminar about the dangers of drug addiction.

More than 200 youth from the Pass area recently took part in an educational seminar about the dangers of drugs, many of them taking away life-changing advice, a local volunteer said Tuesday.

The event was held at Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church in Banning on Feb. 28, church volunteer Rosa Gascoigne told Patch.

"The children’s feedback from the presentation was that they were amazed on how willing the speakers were to share their stories and information," she said.  "They appreciated learning the truth and appreciated them sharing all they know about drugs."

According to Gascoigne, the presentation included discussions on synthetic drugs and methamphetamines-- including the dangers of a new trend of "bath salts."

ABC Recovery Center, based out of Indio, provided the lecture, as speakers related their "painful" life stories as drug addicts "that brought tears to the eyes of many present," Gascoigne said.
