UPDATED: Barricaded Subject Prompts Multi-Agency Response in Beaumont

Police confirm to Banning-Beaumont Patch that someone has barricaded themselves inside a Beaumont home, and several law enforcement agencies are at the scene.

Update: 5:50 p.m.:  Police have confirmed that the man who was holed up in his Beaumont garage was shot and killed this afternoon.

California Highway Patrol officials confirmed that one of the department’s canines, "Ranger," who is 2 1/2-years-old, was shot during the incident. The dog was being treated at a local veterinary clinic and the prognosis was good, Officials said.

The dog's handler was not injured.

Update, 1:50 p.m.:  

Banning-Beaumont Patch is on scene in the area of a standoff, at Brookside and Morgan avenues in Beaumont, about two miles west of Beaumont High School.

Brookside Ave. has been blocked off at Morgan, and the area of Morgan and Monte Verde is also closed, Beaumont Police say.  Through traffic is not allowed.

We are told that since this is a coordinated effort between three agencies: Beaumont Police, California Highway Patrol, and the Riverside Sheriff's Department; official statements will not be given until a spokesperson has arrived from the sheriff's department.

Witnesses tell Banning-Beaumont Patch that they first spotted police activity in the area around 9:30 a.m.

Law enforcement officers from Beaumont Police, California Highway Patrol and the Riverside County Sheriff's Department are all on scene of a "barricaded subject," call in Beaumont, it's been confirmed to Banning-Beaumont Patch.

The house is in the west end of town, off Brookside, near Interstate 10.

Beaumont Police Chief Frank Coe tells Patch that several agencies are at the location while the events unfold.  Right now, it's not clear why the person locked themselves inside, but area streets are blocked off.

CHP Officer Darren Meyer also confirms to Patch that California Highway Patrol officers are assisting in the standoff situation.
